emma gardner design, llc, makers of contemporary heirloom quality rugs, received a Best of Year Award from Interior Design magazine at a November 30th ceremony, which was held at New York’s Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. The award honored Joy, a rug introduced at the 2006 International Contemporary Furniture Fair, by naming it best Floor Covering, Soft – Rug.
“I was incredibly honored to be nominated for a Roscoe award and to be included in such a distinguished group of designers,” said Emma C. Gardner, chief designer and principal of emma gardner design, llc. “The fact that winners were decided by a popular vote makes the award particularly meaningful to me. I would like to congratulate Vicky Simon who was also recognized in this category.”
“The creation of Joy was unusual,” continues Gardner. “It came from a strong inspiration to use lots of colors and a layered, Chinese cut-out effect. I let those things be my guide but when the design was finished we weren’t sure initially if it would work as a rug. The actual rug is very striking, with its mixed piles and bold colors, and response has been so favorable that we decided to make the rug in several color ways.”
Hand-tufted of 100% New Zealand wool, Joy features intricate carving and three levels of pile, and a pattern of flowers, vines and butterflies. Joy is available in standard and custom colors and sizes. The retail price is $50 per square foot. Colorways include Black, Crocus and Spring Green.
