Austin, TX-based furniture company Four Hands announced that they are continuing their strategy of building on proven winners with the expansion of their record-setting Carnegie collection.
According to Jeff Hiller, VP Marketing, "The Carnegie line was launched at High Point in April 2006, and initially consisted of a series of vintage club leather upholstered frames and distressed, solid oak case pieces including occasional and dining. The story was in the craftsmanship. Each upholstered piece is first fully assembled, then trained craftsmen finish the leathers on the frame, with seven stages of staining, sealing, waxing, and cracking by hand. Sofas take up to 14 hours in the finishing alone, club chairs 8 hours. Brass nail heads are individually tacked in place, up to 900 per frame, then antiqued using linseed oil and chalk dust. The result is an incredibly authentic period look and feel.
"There is a similar story with the case goods," he continued, "the crown jewel of which is a butterfly extension dining table. The tables are made of solid Oak, sharded with a spoke shaver to create heavy distressing on the surface, then sanded smooth. They are then stained a rich, reddish brown, with five coats of lacquer for a deep, lustrous finish. The butterfly feature provides a convenient means to add more seating, extending the table with one or two center leaves.
About Four Hands: Four Hands has grown the line to include more than 50 upholstered pieces and 20 occasional and dining pieces, and will be adding 13 additional seating SKU’s this market. They will also be introducing extensive sub-collections of trunks, bookcases, desks and tables, including 33 new SKU’s in all that incorporate wood, leather, and now riveted metal work.
