Lifestyle designer Barclay Butera donated $31,000 to Children’s Action Network (C.A.N.) for their continued work with foster care in the U.S. Celebrating the 4th anniversary of the designer’s Los Angeles showroom, ELLE DECOR magazine sponsored the event, which featured Hollywood’s favorite chanteuse, Morganne, performing throughout the evening in the 7,500 sq. ft., two-story location designed to the hilt with many new design offerings. Butera auctioned off his personal, redesigned Airstream trailer on eBay recently, with all the proceeds going toward the donation.
Actress Kim Delaney (“Army Wives”) attended the event with Children’s Action Network Director Jennifer Perry, who accepted the check on behalf of C.A.N. Delaney is a longtime supporter of the organization that was founded by families in the entertainment industry, including Kate Capshaw and Steven Spielberg, and Stacey and Henry Winkler. C.A.N. (www.childrensactionnetwork.org) uses the power of the entertainment community to increase awareness about children’s issues and to make them a top priority in everyday life. C.A.N. is currently dedicated to raising awareness about and finding homes for the more than 114,000 children in foster care in the United States who are waiting for an adoptive family and improving outcomes for the more than 500,000 children in foster care.
The event – which drew over 450 people – included attendees from the worlds of fashion, entertainment and the arts, as well as design. In attendance were T-Rio, triplet pop stars from Brazil, currently in Los Angeles to record; model / actress Lorielle New (ELLE Belgium, “Up Close and Personal”); actress Cassandra Hepburn (“Hellride,” “Find Me Guilty”); FASHION L.A. publisher Roger Muse; LuxuryLifestyle.com co-founder Amanda McConnell; Ron Valdez, owner of the prestigious Hemilton-Selway Fine Art gallery; and James Panozza of Lawrence Asher Gallery.
Says organization Director Jennifer Perry, "CAN is thrilled to be partnering with Barclay. We love that Barclay’s great design sensibilities are only exceeded by his generosity....and that his generosity will help CAN in our work to help find homes for foster children. It is a great fit and a really fun project that will have a big impact.” Butera has worked with CAN prior, on two design show houses that benefited the charity. Says Butera, “I’ve been wanting to work with Children’s Action Network again; I greatly respect their mission and am happy we found a way to fundraise on their behalf.”
Butera debuted his luxe-redesigned Airstream trailer as a ‘green room’ during the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, and it also served as the private lounge area at pre-Oscar parties, and was featured in the press.
POM fruit drinks and Mojito Island mix sponsored the event, as well, providing delicious beverages for all. Photos are available at www.patrickmcmullan.com, or contact Julie Du Brow.
