In keeping with its 2008 theme of showing how sleep can improve performance, the International Sleep Products Association (ISPA) announced that it will operate a “Media Recharging Center” at the January 2008 Las Vegas Market. The Center will enable journalists to book a nap on their choice of sleep surface and be briefed by experts on sleep and performance during their visit to the 2,600-square-foot center in Building B on the World Market Center campus.
The ISPA Media Recharging Center will be operated in partnership with the World Market Center (which operates the show). Credentialed journalists will be able to book their own personal “recharging session”, consisting of a 20-minute or 40-minute nap at the Center, during Market Week from January 28 to February 1 from 11 am to 6 pm. Journalists will be able to choose from a number of mattresses to recharge their bodies and minds and improve their overall coverage of the Winter Las Vegas Market. ISPA members will be donating mattresses and accessories to make this a truly memorable event for the media.
“What better way to demonstrate to journalists the effects of sleep on performance than by letting them experience the message. This unique hands-on program creatively shows reporters what our industry knows all too well – that sleep is integral to your optimal daily performance,” said ISPA President Dick Doyle. “Besides bringing a well-deserved rest to hard-working journalists covering the Market, the ISPA Media Recharging Center will enable them to experience the importance of sleep for a healthy and productive lifestyle.”
In addition to being offered a rejuvenating nap in a comfortable environment, journalists will have an opportunity to speak with Dr. Bert Jacobson, professor and head of the School of Educational Studies at Oklahoma State University. Dr. Jacobson has expertise in sleep deficiency as it relates to daytime activity, social interactions, mood and loss of work productivity. Furthermore, he has researched the connection between mattress quality and musculoskeletal discomfort, improved sleep quality, and stress symptoms.
Nancy Shark, executive director of the Better Sleep Council, ISPA's consumer-education arm, will also be on hand to provide information on the importance of a new mattress to sleep, health, and quality of life.

Established in 1915, the International Sleep Products Association, www.sleepproducts.org is the trade organization for mattress manufacturers and their component suppliers around the world. ISPA hosts the biennial ISPA EXPO trade show and publishes BedTimes and Sleep Savvy magazines.
