Haven® Magazine Resumes Publication

The Home Furnishings Council announced that it will resume quarterly publication of it’s consumer magazine Haven® beginning in September. Haven® was first published in 1990 and was distributed by as many as 4,000 individual home furnishings retailers. The Council suspended publication three years ago, choosing to focus on national television with it’s “Joy Philbin’s Haven®” weekly TV program. The Haven® TV program is no longer being produced, but continued requests from consumers and retailers alike convinced the Council there is a need for the Haven® print publication. The magazine will be distributed through participating retail stores. Editorial direction and publishing will be under the guidance of Robert W. Nightengale, Jr., former President of the HFC, who now serves as a consultant to the Council. Retailers may purchase the magazine for $1.00 per copy and offer it as a gift to consumers or elect to charge for it. Quantity discounts are available. A pre-publication mailing this month will give retailers the opportunity to place their orders for four quarterly issues. Manufacturers will be offered the opportunity to purchase quantities for distribution to their retailer networks. Those magazines may be customized with manufacturer’s advertisements and a section of editorial focused on their product line. Advertising will be available in the general publication for non-furniture manufacturers. No advertising will be included that, in the judgment of the HFC operating comittee, would compete with products offered by industry retailers. The Home Furnishings Council is operated as an industry marketing voice to the consumer. It serves for the good of the home furnishings industry. Participation in the Council by all interested companies and manufacturers is welcomed.
