"Treat yourself" is the catchphrase for Winter 2004, according to the latest edition of the PANTONE View Colour Planner from Pantone, Inc., the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries.
According to Pantone, what the consumer is looking for now is not the shock of the new, but a feeling of comfort. Consumers at every income level are looking for quality and value, getting rid of the superfluous and living their lives less chaotically. They are beginning to realize that knowledge, private time, personal energy and space are all personal currencies that are at least as important as money. This is reflected in the very balanced and considered approach to color for Winter 2004.
"This edition of the PANTONE View Colour Planner expresses a real feeling of calm," explained Tod Schulman, director of marketing for the PANTONE TEXTILE Color System (r) . "Color is less ostentatious and excessive; it's more discreet and acceptable. But that does not mean that the end product will be boring - a controlled sense of color leaves you much more space to be daring and adventurous in fabric and shape."
Exemplifying the pamper-and-indulge mindset is "Pleasing," with colors such as Mellow Green, Pale Mauve and Banana Crepe. Situated between the human and the alien, the contrasting colors of "Focused" combine light and darkness with shades like Moonstruck, Lunar Rock and Forest Night. "Recharging" evokes a dreamlike world of reflection, washed with yellow and alive with drama, while "Nourishing" speaks of feeding and hunger. The snuggle-soft colors of "Comforting" and the elegant harmonies of "Grace" yield to the plastic and synthetic colors of the final palette, "Treats."
The PANTONE View Colour Planner is based on the PANTONE TEXTILE Color System, the most widely used and recognized color standard in the world. It is produced by a team of leading visionaries from all over the world with expertise in different disciplines, providing a comprehensive color forecasting service for multiple design areas, including men's and women's apparel, beauty and industrial design. Within each of the season's most directional color palettes, a general introduction outlines the colors included and the philosophy behind them. In addition, a specific breakdown of each palette covers harmonies, suggested color combinations, and suitable patterns and fabrics according to end use.
