Capel Incorporated Gives Back To Their Navajo Partners Through The Navajo Weaving Trust

Capel Incorporated is committed to being a tremendous corporate citizen, and they are displaying this commitment by giving back to the Navajo weavers who have helped them create Capel's Woven Spirits Collection. The Navajo Weaving Trust, a permanent endowment, is dedicated to preserving and enhancing the lives of the Navajo people, their weaving traditions and their heritage. Capel will donate a percentage of all rug sales from the Woven Spirits Navajo Collection to the endowment. Private donations will also be accepted, enabling the Trust to support and sustain this traditional Southwestern art form and its craftspeople. Joyce Begay-Foss, Capel's Navajo weaving project manager and chair of the Trust's committee which will distribute future endowment awards, is pleased with the sincerity and support Capel is showing to the traditional Navajo weavers. "This endowment enables us to give back to the Navajo community," Begay-Foss said. "Many of the weavers have no formal education and this endowment allows us to support their current lifestyle and keep this traditional art form alive." The Trust is flexible about how funds will be distributed, opening the doors to all weavers who need assistance. Applications will be accepted from all Navajo weavers. Individual artists will be strongly encouraged to apply for future awards. Award opportunities may include tuition assistance for children of Navajo weavers, assistance in providing new supplies such as looms and materials, scholarships, merit awards and special recognition of weaving achievement awards. The Navajo Weaving Trust welcomes corporate, local charity and individual sponsors to join its efforts to further the prosperity of the Navajo people, arts and culture.
