Sleep Country USA announced that this fall, Washington and Oregon's foster kids have over 5,600 new reasons to get dressed up. Thanks to the generous individuals and businesses in our communities that donated thousands of items of new clothing, such as shirts, sweaters, jeans, socks, undergarments, and more, Sleep Country USA's 2008 clothing drive was a resounding success. The five-week drive garnered an increase of 44% in donated items over the 2007 drive, proving that despite tight economic times, community generosity and commitment to this important social cause remains very strong. The new clothing is distributed to Sleep Country USA's foster organization partners who will help children and their foster families obtain the clothing they need to replace items that don't fit or are too worn out to continue to wear.
This summer, Sleep Country USA teamed up for the third year in a row with Wild Waves Theme Park to host two special events for foster children and their families at the Federal Way amusement park. The park generously donated 1,000 tickets for foster children and their families, and offered individuals who brought items to donate to the ongoing Sleep Country USA Foster Kids drives an opportunity to receive half-price admission to the theme park. The total donation on behalf of Wild Waves Theme Park exceeded $40,000.
"The ongoing growth of our Sleep Country USA Foster Kids program is stunning and enables us as a community to have a tremendous impact of the lives of these children with even the seemingly simplest of items, like a new pair of pants," said Terry Horsley, Vice President of Brand Strategy, Sleep Country USA. "We've seen this program grow year after year and strive to make this progress a mainstay for the foster children that we reach because we recognize heartedly that their success is our future success as a community."
Sleep Country USA is currently collecting new school supplies for foster children at all of their Pacific Northwest locations through September 14th.
