Never mind an earlier tip I wrote about writing longer description tags. Google did an about face.
Four tips ago, I wrote about a Google change that allowed for longer description tags.
It was cool because it allowed for more text in a description of your products or services in a search results snippet.
Well, after a few short months, Google pulled the plug on them. Pretty much. I say “pretty much” because for some searches Google is still extending the snippet length. It depends on the search.

Although Google doesn’t recommend putting a ton of effort into writing the description tags, I have found that if tags are written well, with helpful information that matches the page, Google often does use a portion — if not all — of the snippet in a search result.
By the way, this is the first time I’ve seen Google make such a dramatic change in such a short period of time.
